Believe it or not, I was able to purchase this monitor brand new in 2023! This is particularly important for CRT displays, as the electron gun will wear out over time. This can lead to a dim image, or (in displays with a dedicated gun for each color) a loss of one color altogether.
Since this monitor is in such nice condition, it lives on my desk. As you can see, I use it primarily for developing this very website! Although the monitor supports a maximum resolution of 1152x854 at 75Hz, my cobbled-together Chromebook (running Debian) only supports 1280x720 at 60Hz via HDMI. This leads to a weirdly-scaled but usable image. There's a bit of flicker if I catch the monitor from my peripheral vision, but I'm unusually sensitive to CRT/fluroescent flicker. It's totally fine viewed head-on.
The nicest thing about this monitor (compared to say a Dell E773s) is the number of adjustments available via the OSD (On Screen Display). There are options for just about every geometry issue imaginable - horizontal bowing, vertical bowing, trapezoidal adjustment, rotation, vertical/horizontal sizing/position, and more. It also features some excellent color adjustment functionality. I used a test pattern to get the display calibrated as best I could, but keep in mind I'm viewing a compressed image via an HDMI to VGA converter at a weirdly-scaled resolution. That said, this screen is great for watching older anime and cartoons! I've been working through the Batman Animated Series and Black Lagoon recently, and both look excellent (bearing in mind the above limitations).
I don't really have any immediate future plans for this display. Many of my devices (especially the CRTs) are older and need a bit of repair or tinkering. This particular monitor still had the original packaging (down to the plastic on the display surface) and it doesn't really need anything. I'm almost insulted by how clean and functional it is - I like to get my hands dirty tearing electronics apart, but this one just works! For now, it will sit on my desk where I'll use it every few days to update this website or watch some older animated works. I may switch to a different source device, as my Samsung Chromebook only supports a few resolutions via HDMI (and none of them work well on this display).
